SkinPen is a medical micro-needling (or skin needling) device. Micro-needling is a form of collagen induction therapy that uses tiny needles to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing response. In this response, new tissue and skin cells are formed, allowing for significant improvements to the tone and texture of the skin.
SkinPen is one of the only needling devices recognised by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods and can only be administered by medical practitioners, ensuring the highest class of sterility and depth precision. Compared to other needling treatments, SkinPen is a medical device, which enables us to treat not only the superficial skin, but acne and other scaring that requires deeper penetration in the dermal layers. The other benefit of the SkinPen is its unique needling cartridge. The cartrdige is where the calibration lies, so every time you put a new cartridge on the device, it is like a brand new pen, ensuring depth precision in every treatment. The needling cartridge also has a lock out system, that means once it has been removed from the pen, it gets locked out and cannot be put back on for further use. This further guarantees that the cartridges are strictly single use.
With the application of a topical anaesthetic gel prior to your treatment, most people find the SkinPen so comfortable that they often describe it as like 'having a face massage'. The nose area can get a little bit tickly as it vibrates a little bit, but there is no pain. After your treatment your face will feel like it has been mildly sunburned for the next hour or two, but that quickly settles.
The number of treatments required will depend on your individual skin type and concern. Generally, best results come from 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. A custom treatment plan that's right for you will be advised at your consultation.
It is strongly recommended that a SkinPen treatment is done as a series of treatments rather than a single treatment to ensure maximum effect.
