Can my skin tone be made even, lighter?

Skin complexion and tone can be improved with a range of treatments. One of the innovative treatments is laser with wavelengths that a safe to be used on ALL skin types and tones. We use the Fontona Starwalker laser system with multiple wavelengths, selected depending on your skin type and concern. Concerns include skin blemishes and uneven skin tone, melasma, scarring including acne scarring, and facial rejuvenation by improving collagen production in and plumping the skin.

How can this be treated safely?

Laser wavelengths are selective for particular colours- by selecting the appropriate wavelength for the colour of the concern we can selectively target that tissue type. For skin brightening and lightening we use the laser wavelength that targets very specifically the pigment cells in our skin but importantly, this laser uses ultra short pulses that do not generate heat or cause hyperpigmentation in susceptible skin types.

How does the laser work?

The laser works by targeting melanin, the pigment that gives our skin its colour, and also by inducing collagen production and skin tightening. To clear pigment the laser sends extremely short pulses of energy into the target area that work to shatter the pigment particles into fragments small enough for the body’s natural immune system to be able to remove. The body then clears these pigment irregularities leaving you with a smoother, plumper, more even complexion.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will depend on the level of pigmentation, your skin type and how your skin responds, but generally we recommend 2-6 treatments 2-4 weeks apart until the desired end point is reached. Each treatment will take approximately 30 mins with multiple passes of the laser.

Is there any downtime?

There is little downtime with this treatment. You will be flushed for usually an hour or two afterwards. It is a non-ablative, non-invasive treatment that your skin recovers from quickly. There is no scabbing or bleeding after the treatment.

Is this a painful treatment?

The level of pain depends on your pain threshold, but generally speaking this is not a painful treatment. It may feel a bit warm or prickly as the treatment is performed but there is no lasting discomfort. If you do find the process uncomfortable we can perform the treatment under topical local anaesthesia, but this is not often needed.
