Improve the shape and size of your lips with dermal fillers - to balance out your lips, making them fuller.
What procedures are available to improve or enhance my lips?
These can be broken down to three main groups –
The injection of LIP FILLERS to increase volume, improve shape and to improve lip lines
The injection of MUSCLE RELAXANTS to reduce lip wrinkles and lines and to create a LIP FLIP
Minor SURGICAL procedures called LIP LIFT and CORNER LIP LIFT for a permanent lip rejuvenation.
While LIP FILLERS are by far one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic medicine the world over LIP FLIPS and LIFTS are two alternative procedures that are becoming increasingly popular options as they address issues that may not be addressed sufficiently by fillers alone.
To FILL, FLIP or LIFT? Am I a good candidate?
There are several types of fillers available but for lips the safest to use are the natural Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers.
Apart from producing beautiful natural results they are also a naturally occurring substance in our bodies making them extremely well tolerated. They attract moisture and this usually improves the overlying skin texture.
HA is a biocompatible gel-like substances infused with local anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. There are different grades of fillers with different densities and different properties, we select a filler best suited to each individual lip problem to restore volume or enhance the size of the lips, whilst still providing nice definition to the lip (vermillion) boarder with a natural look.
The HA fillers we use are biocompatible, making them extremely well tolerated and safe.
Because they are a natural product side effects are very uncommon. Allergic reactions and infections are rare, in the order of one in three thousand cases,
We use an aseptic technique and take a full medical history from our patients to minimise the chance of any complications
Many ideal candidates for lip fillers avoid them for fear that they will look silly or bad. However, “duck lips”, bumpy lips, irregular lips and overfilled lips are generally caused by inexperienced injectors. With training and experience as well as the selection of the correct product and technique for each individual lip problem these problems should be rarely seen. For example, you cannot treat an older person’s lip issues in the same way that you would treat a young person’s lips. Restoration of lip volume, shape and contour is individual.
Everyone’s lips are different, and so are the products. Lips get used a lot and so fillers tend to break down faster there than in some other areas where movement is more limited. Denser fillers will last longer in the lips than light ones. With the correct selection of product most can expect 9-15 months duration, with average requirement for top-up around 12 months.
The procedure is performed “in office” and takes 15 to 20 minutes.
top and bottom lips are treated but the relative fullness of each will depend on your lip shape and style as well as your preferences.
It is generally performed using numbing injections for comfort (numbness lasts 20 – 30 minutes) although many decline the anaesthetic preferring not to have numb lips afterwards, and with gentle injecting technique this is quite tolerable particularly as there is local anaesthetic in the product which improves the comfort of the injection.
There may be some swelling or bruising, but this is usually mild. Any swelling usually settles in 2-3 days.
You should avoid puckering your lips (smoking, kissing, drinking from straws and bottles) and having hot drinks for a couple of days so as not to influence the position of the filler.
