Why do brows drop over time?

Eyebrow position is dependent on the balance between the muscles that pull them up (the forehead muscles) and those that pull them down (the squint muscles). As with other facial muscles which weaken with age there is a gravity induced sagging as the raising muscles weaken. Further, the skin itself also develops a laxity and sags with age. The combination is a progressive gradual drop of the eyebrows and eyelids. In the process the eyebrows also lose volume which means loss of support and this allows them to deflate (flatten) and drop further.

Can I lift and contour my brows with filler?

On the face volume is support, so if you lose volume you also lose support. This is the same problem with eyebrows. Fillers can restore both volume and support as well as permitting you to create a 3-dimensional contour of the eyebrows. This creates fuller and slightly elevated and rounder eyebrows that are intrinsically more elegant and feminine.

How is this done and how long will it last?

There are many safe and natural fillers that can be used to achieve this. The procedure takes around 10 – 15 minutes and is carried out safely and comfortably by using a fine soft tipped cannula that minimises the risk of bruising. Filler is placed above the eyebrow to create a lift, underneath the eyebrow to create a 3-dimensional fullness, and below the eyebrow (if required) to create a soft rounding of the that part of the upper eyelid. There is generally no downtime involved.

The duration of the results will vary according to the product used, but generally 12 months or longer before needing a top-up may be expected.
