Using Anti-wrinkle injections OR Radio Frequency (RF) to halt excessive sweating.
‘Hyper’ – means excessive, ‘hidrosis’ – means sweating.
Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating, usually to the point of discomfort and embarrassment. Although any area can be affected the majority of complaints relate to the underarms, hands and feet, and can cause problems with work and personal life as well as personal hygiene.
Over the counter preparations such as antiperspirants and deodorants may give temporary relief for mild cases but have a limited effectiveness for more troublesome ones.
Used worldwide since 1980 for cosmetic purposes to stop muscles contracting and producing wrinkles and lines on the face this product is also extremely effective for switching off sweat production! It is particularly effective in treating hyperhidrosis of the underarms, hands and feet of people suffering from this benign but stressful condition.
Radiofrequency needling treatments for face have been around for a long time but have not been effective for this particular condition. However, a new technology called MORPHEUS8 is extremely effective and is a true game changer in the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
These injections specifically block the nerves that supply and stimulate the sweat glands to produce more sweat, resulting in significant drying up of the area.
Patients are instructed not to use any antiperspirants or deodorants for 1-2 weeks beforehand so that a ‘starch-iodine test’ can be performed to precisely outline the areas that are overproducing sweat. These areas can then be targeted to produce the most precise and effective results.
An effective topical anaesthetic cream is then applied to the area for 40 minutes so that the injections can be carried out with relative comfort and ease. Sedation is not usually required but can be used on anxious individuals if they prefer.
The injections are then carried out in a precise grid pattern so that no areas are left untreated.
Allergy or other reactions to the product are extremely rare.
If the patient is a first-timer, they may not see anything for 10 to 14 days. However, for people who come back for subsequent injections, it often kicks in within a few days
Most results last between 5 to 9 months; however, this varies between patients as you may get longer or shorter duration. With the first treatment you should expect less and then this extends following further treatments.
Again, patients are requested not to use any antiperspirants or deodorants for 1-2 weeks beforehand so that a ‘starch-iodine test’ can be carried out to precisely outline the affected area and give the most precise results.
The RF actually removes the overactive sweat glands rather than just blocking their activity, and so results from this treatment are usually very long lasting and very satisfying.
The area to be treated is totally anaesthetised with local anaesthetic injections so nothing can be felt at all.
Unlike other RF devices the Morpheus8 that we use has needles that can range from 2mm to 7mm in depth, designed to enable us to successfully reach and treat the deep sweat glands in the skin in all patient types, skin types and colours.
The Morpheus8 fires RF pulses into that level of the skin to reduce the numbers of overactive sweat glands present and so effectively drying up the area.
You will notice sweat reduction within a few days and this reduction improves further over the following days and weeks.
Because abnormally active sweat glands are removed the results from this treatment are very long lasting and possibly permanent particularly if a repeat treatment is carried out after a few months.
